Like a lot of youngsters from Newcastle, Josh “Cyril” Nicol grew up playing Rugby League and soccer before making his move to the Warners Bay’s junior club through his friendship with Daniel Gray and Luke McKenna. Cyril picked up the game pretty quickly and is now regarded as one of the best kicks and most skillful players at the club. Josh’s skills were not the reason for his nickname “Cyril”, rather the passionate Collingwood “fan” decided to wear a Hawthorn guernsey to training one night. The name has stuck hard with Josh ever since much to his displeasure.
The 26 year has already completed a university degree in communications and is now undertaking a second degree in psychology at the University of Newcastle. Around the club, Cyril finds Cougs and Luke Mckenna as the funniest team mates, Captain Nick Turner as the best bloke and Kayne Gibbs as the most annoying (a regular mention in these articles).
Cyril describes the most embarrassing moment around footy when he “accidently” elbowed a 15 year old in a game of seniors. When sent to the judiciary the self-proclaimed intellect and astute man was quite confident on getting off, however ended up getting hit with a 2 week suspension which was his first ever. Another embarrassing moment for the learned man was more recently after the round 10 Lake Macquarie match where Cyril lost his car keys. Cyril was stung with a $500 fee to replace the key only to find the lost ones at Tuesday training. The $500 fee has seen Cyril’s attendance at the Warners Bay Hotel drop off sharply.
In all seriousness we wish Josh the best of luck in match 150 the Bulldogs.
