The senior side is pleased to announce the arrival of key defender Sam “Rummy” Rumball. The 30 year old has moved back to Newcastle from Sydney where he played for the UNSW Bulldogs. Rummy plays across the half back line or fullback where he uses his 6 foot 2 frame to shut down key forwards. His greatest footy achievement was when he played for the Lismore Swans and won a flag in 2011.
Sam moved back to Newcastle to be closer to family and friends, one of whom is Joel Pittard, the great grandson of club founder John McKeown, who convinced Sam to come to the Bulldogs. Sam is also a passionate Sydney Swans and Heath Grundy fan. Both coaches are very pleased with Sam’s efforts at training and his commitment shown through the pre-season and to have a key defender come into the backline is an added bonus. Both coaches added he was very impressive in the pre-season match against Newcastle City on the weekend.
We welcome Sam to the Kennel and wish him all the very best for the season ahead.
